SEE HER SPOTLIGHT – Joy Whittle

Written by Emily Berry

Joy Whittle, Evendale Branch Manager, has been a part of the Sharefax family for 36 years. She’s a friend, a co-worker, a mentor and like her namesake, an absolute joy to be around. Joy is also a daughter, a mother, a grandmother, and so much more. She started her Sharefax journey in April of 1988 and her last day with us will sadly be May 1st, 2024. When she was younger, Joy dreamed of one day becoming a lawyer and even though we all know she would have been a great one, we’re all happy that she graced Sharefax with her wonderful presence instead. Peggy Moffitt walking down the hallway singing a Tina Turner song goes down as one of her favorite Sharefax memories and when asked what she would miss the most about Sharefax Joy answered that she will greatly miss her co-workers and the members. And I know we all feel the same. Sharefax will not be the same without her. When asking people to describe Joy they all answered with pretty much the same things. They all described Joy to be a great mentor, a wonderful support system, kind, fun, compassionate and just over all an amazing woman.

“Joy has been just what her name says, a Joy. She has helped encourage me and helped bring out leadership skills in me. She will be greatly missed, this isn’t a goodbye, it’s a c-ya later.” -Lauren Fletcher

After she retires, Joy plans to do some traveling and will hopefully get to mark some places off her bucket list like Paris and Los Cabos. When she’s not traveling, she’ll be doing some of favorite things like gardening, reading, cooking, knitting, and spending time with her grandsons. And this wouldn’t be a See Her Spotlight if I didn’t ask Joy who the most influential woman in her life is and she answered with her mom.

Joy’s last day will be a bittersweet one. We wish her the best and hope that she has the most relaxing, fun, adventurous retirement. I’m going to leave this with some wonderful words from our very own Tasha Talbert:

“Working with Joy has always been a pleasure. She has always been one of the mentors within this company that I have looked up to and admired. She has this way of pushing you into things you never thought were possible to do within the company. I always thought I would be a teller for the remainder of my career with Sharefax. Not because I wanted to be, but because I did not have faith within myself that I could do any other job better. She gave me the confidence within myself that I could be more than just a teller. She saw something in me that I did not see in myself. So, if it was not for Joy having that way about her and mentoring me into the position I am in today, I would most likely still be on the teller line. Don’t get me wrong I love being a teller. I know our membership is going to miss Joy when she retires after almost 36 years of service. A lot of the membership loves dealing with Joy on a regular basis. She has always gone out of her way to help our members in the best way possible. Joy is always the life of the party. She is so fun to be around, makes everyone smile, laugh, and have a really good time. She will always have your back in every situation. She is a good listener, a good support system, compassionate and an amazing woman.  She is a great friend, and I will miss her when she retires.”
